Fairy Tale Craftivities

WHOOO HOOO !  I can't believe I finally finished a project I started last year during our Fairy Tale Unit.  I absolutely love teaching Fairy Tales and when I couldn't find a craftivity to go with fairy tales I decided well maybe I can do this myself.  I started with Goldilocks and  Papa Bear but this project mushroomed into a total of  9 crafts over the past year.  During the past two weeks my kitchen table has looked like Edward Scissorhands met craft central and my kids have asked "Will we ever eat at the kitchen table again?" Well the mess is gone and we are back to eating at the table once again and here's the end product............

 Athough I sometimes don't care for facebook I do feel like it has its place.  I find myself checking out my favorites on there more than on blogs anymore,  it's just easy to scroll through during down time while waiting on appointments and such.  Let me know what you think. DO YOU FACEBOOK?   We have a facebook page but don't utilize it like we should, maybe that will change.

Fairy Tale Fun & Freebies

April is right around the corner and I absolutely cannot believe it!   We still have so much to do and only about seven weeks to do it!  One thing on our agenda this time of year is Fairy Tales.  This is the time of year when we step away from our Scott Foresman Reading Series to teach Fairy Tales. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE teaching Fairy Tales because there are so many fun activities you can do with them, let’s face it some of those basal stories are B-O-R-I-N-G, sorry basal lovers. So here's a peek into our week where we  had nine kinds of fun with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We read

We compared and contrasted the original “Goldilocks” to “Beware or the Bears”

, this is one of my favorite fractured fairy tales.

We also read Goldie and the Three Hares which was a great selection since it was the week of Easter.

We worked on retelling the story.

A Pocket Chart/Station Activity-Sorting the Sounds of "ed"

 

We made porridge.........

 

and graphed who liked it and who didn't. Boy  was I amazed at how many students liked it! I guarantee if their moms would have given them oatmeal they would have said, YUCK NO WAY! ( I hear it all the time from my kids)   but call it porridge and Viola!!! (  I did throw in a little extra brown sugar. One of my students said "Mrs. Funk this reminds me of "OAKMEAL" and my TASTEBUGS like it.

                                                 

Finally students used adjectives to describe their PORRIDGE. This is only a portion of the fun we had with Fairy Tales this week.  Check back next week for more fun and freebies.
